Goldberg Benefits From Osun Osogbo Festival Sponsorship

The partnership between most sought after beer brand, Goldberg lager, manufactured by Nigerian Breweries Plc. & the popular Osun Osogbo festival may be yielding bountiful benefits for the brand.

Goldberg, which identifies with the tradition of the people, was the official beer of the 2014 edition of the Osun Osogbo festival.

The role of the beer brand, which contributed to the success of this year’s edition of the festival, received commendations from the chief cultural custodian and traditional ruler, His Royal Majesty, Oba JimohOyetunjiOlanipekunLarooye II, the Ataoja of Osogboland.
He spoke at the official commissioning of the 21-day Goldberg beer village, which was built by the brand as part of its support towards the success of the Osun Osogbo Festival. The Ataoja of Osogbo was represented at the event by Chief Emmanuel Ojo, the IketaBalogun of Osogboland who also headed the Osun Osogbo festival committee. Other distinguished guests who were part of the traditional ruler’s entourage at the event were Alhaji Yusuf Folorunsho, Secretary of the festival and Ayo Olumokun the Chief Festival Consultant.

Chief Emmanuel Ojo, on behalf of the traditional ruler, appreciated Nigerian Breweries Plc. for the company’s continued support and prayed that the Goldberg brand would continue to soar in sales
Mr. Joseph Bodunrin, Regional Business Manager, Nigerian Breweries Plc., also spoke at the official commissioning of Goldberg’s beer village. He announced that the beer brand’s market share has continued to rise as a result of its affiliation with the festival, regarded as one of the most prominent celebrations of culture and heritage in Western Nigeria.

The Regional Business Manager said: “Goldberg’s market share has continued to increase in Osogbo and its environs and we attribute this to the brand’s sponsorship of this great festival.”
According to him, Goldberg became one of the brands of Nigerian Breweries Plc., after the company acquired another brewing company; adding that the Osun Oshogbo festival was identified as one of the as one of the platforms to market the product.
Mr. Bodunrin added: “I am proud to say that Goldberg has been widely accepted by the people of Osun even though this is only the second year of Goldberg’s sponsorship of Osun Osogbo festival. Goldberg took over sponsorship from another beer brand from the Nigerian Breweries Plc. stable. The influence of the Osun Osogbo festival transcends the Osun people as it attracts tourists from the different countries of the world. We believe that with this, Goldberg’s popularity will even soar among the citizens of the various nationalities that visit Osogbo during the period of the festival.”
Bodunrin also thanked the retailers of Nigerian Breweries products as well as the consumers; whom he described as the back bone of the company.
Visitors to the Goldberg beer village were treated to the best of indigenous music as fuji acts like St. Janet, a popular Fuji musician and Antenna, the inaugural winner of the ‘Fuji To Bad’Goldberg activation entertained them.
Some lucky consumers of the beer brand also carted home exciting gifts courtesy of raffle draws conducted by Goldberg to reward them for patronage. Some of the gift items which were won via a raffle draw were TV sets, home theatres, generators, bags of rice, among others.
The highlight of the celebrations of 2014 edition of the Osun Osogbo Festival was the procession to the Osun Grove.
Though Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, the executive governor of Osun State was unavoidably absent, he sent in a goodwill message. He described the festival as the mother of all festivals which draws crowds from all over the world thereby placing the state on the global tourism and cultural map.
He said: “What we are celebrating is an integral part of our culture and our culture defines who we are. Osun Osogbo is also our flagship tourist attraction. Coupled with the Osun Grove, which is already a UNESCO heritage site, we are firmly planted in the tourism map of the world. We have been working to develop other tourist sites in the state and we now have a master plan. We intend to develop it and make tourism one of the planks of economic development in the state. Our greater plan is to bring at least one million Yorubas in the Diaspora to attend the Osun Osogbo festival every year. This will generate jobs in tour guides, accommodation, arts and crafts and construction, among others.”
In his address, Oba JimohOyetunjiOlanipekunLarooye II, the Ataoja of Osogboland said: “The Osun Osogbo Festival has continued to endear itself to many people across the globe and has been adjudged as the only festival that has consistently witnessed the largest turnout of visitors and participants among all known festivals in Nigeria. It is one of the festivals that has made it possible to meet old friends and relations who normally come together to felicitate the Osogbo community.”
He also thanked the state government forits support for the festival through the construction of a permanent and befitting presentation pavilion; encouragement of many visitors to participate in the festival through the provision of free rail transportation to and from Lagos State and beautification of the grove; among other activities.

Photo: Man allegedly rapes his own daughter

The man you see in this pic is being accused of sexually molesting his own 5 year old daughter (pictured right). This happened in the Italuwo community in Ikorodu Road, Lagos. I don't have much details but according to a source, a neighbour suspected the man was assaulting the little girl and alerted people in the area. When confronted, he denied it but the girl confirmed she'd been molested. He was beaten and taken to the community security post. This pic was taken as he was being interrogated. Details later

Ayo Oritsejafor admits ownership of cash-stacked jet seized in SA

Yesterday there were reports that a private jet was seized and two Nigerians were being investigated for trying to smuggling $9.3 million in cash into South Africa (read here). It turns out that the private jet the money was found in belongs to the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN president, Ayo Oritsejafor via a company he co-owns, Eagle Air. But in a statement released today, Pastor Oritsejafor said he had leased the jet to another company so had no control over the use of the jet.
"On behalf of Pastor Oritsejafor, we can confirm that although he holds an interest in Eagle Air, the aircraft in question is not operated by Pastor Oritsejafor. The aircraft was leased to, and is operated by Green Coast Produce Limited since August 2” a statement from the church read.
Green Coast Produce Limited then released a statement saying that the aircraft was hired by one John Ishyaku and therefore they can't be liable for any alleged infractions either in Nigeria or South Africa after the hire.
“On the 5th of September 2014 the aircraft was hired from us by a John Ishyaku. The charter to John Ishyaku was upon the following documented terms: (a) Depart Abuja-Johannesburg on the 5th of September 2014 (b) Return to Abuja on the 6th of September 2014 (c) To wait and return with the passengers. All cargoes were accompanied by passenger who could readily defend the contents. We are not and cannot be privy to any alleged extraneous cargo transported on the aircraft other than that declared in the agreed terms of hire. We are not liable and cannot be construed as a party to any alleged infractions, either in Nigeria or South Africa as he case may be, after the hire of the aircraft." the company said.
The private jet carrying the money, allegedly meant for buying weapons, landed at Lanseria International Airport, Johannesburg on September 5. The money was loaded in three suitcases but attracted suspicion when the suitcases were scanned. The money and the jet have been seized by SA customs pending investigation.

South African govt say 67 of its citizens died in Synagogue building collapse

South African president, Jacob Zuma announced today that 67 of its citizens died in the Synagogue building collapse that occurred on September 12th. The South Africans were in Nigeria to seek spiritual help and were staying at the guest house before it collapsed. Read the full statement from President Zuma after the cut...

I am greatly saddened to announce that 67 South Africans died and scores of others sustained injuries, after a building at the Synagogue Church of All Nations collapsed on Friday, 12 September 2014, in Lagos, in the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
This is a particularly difficult time for South Africa. Not in the recent history of our country have we had this large number of our people die in one incident outside the country. Our thoughts are with the families, friends and colleagues that have lost their loved ones in this heart-breaking tragedy. The whole nation shares the pain of the mothers, fathers, daughters and sons who have lost their loved ones. We are all in grief. As we mourn this sudden and tragic death of our fellow compatriots, I have directed the relevant Government departments and entities to act with the utmost urgency to ensure that we facilitate the movement of relevant family members to Nigeria to identify the bodies of their loved ones and to ensure that we repatriate the remains as soon as possible under the circumstances.
I would like to take this opportunity also to thank all family members and friends who have provided information to Government, which information has assisted the South African High Commission in Nigeria in its efforts to locate our fellow citizens. I would also like to commend all affected families for their patience and resolve during this very painful period. On behalf of the Government and the people of South Africa, I would like to thank the Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria for their support during this difficult time. We also send our sincere condolences to the people of Nigeria and all other nations affected by this tragedy. I would like to assure all affected families that the Government will provide all the necessary support. Government will keep the public informed of developments around this tragedy. May the souls of the departed compatriots rest in peace. I thank you. Issued by: the Presidency Pretoria

School resumption: GEJ pleads with NUT, says Govt isn't foolish

Speaking with journalists today September 16th in Abuja, President Jonathan appealed to members of the Nigerian Union of Teachers, NUT to return to the classrooms on Sept. 22 as there is no known case of Ebola in the country at the moment. Below is what he said...
"We have been able to manage Ebola and the whole world is happy with us and we must tell the whole world that we have managed Ebola and no Nigerian should be segregated because of Ebola. In fact Osun State was to have their festival and the news came to me to cancel it I said no, Ebola is no longer a threat in Nigeria and we must tell the world that we have been able to contained Ebola."
Yes, Ebola is in the West Coast, it could happen in Ghana, it‎ could happen in Senegal or any of the West African countries or beyond but they have not closed down their institutions. If we still have Ebola definitely we will not open any of our institutions but we don’t have Ebola. I dare ask is NUT ‎saying that until the world is able to end Ebola is Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone before Nigeria should open our institutions? It is not right. Government is not a fool, it is not any labour body that asked us to take that decision, we took it because we felt that we must protect our citizens.
This is one government that discusses with anybody that has issues to discuss. Even NUT has no reason to threaten industrial action because of Ebola, the governors took that decision. I called all the governors of the states to come with their commissioners of health. On the day of that meeting I did not even allow them to speak because they will play politics. I asked all the commissioners including the Secretary of Health in Abuja, to brief us ‎on the steps they have taken and they listened to their colleagues because it was also a peer review process. If you are hiding certain things by the time you hear your colleagues you will go back and get things done.
We are sure that even if one mad Sawyer comes again, nobody will contract Ebola. We have managed Ebola very well, the world is happy we must tell the world that no Nigerian should be suspected of Ebola and that is the position of government. I will plead with NUT and other unions that this does not require industrial action. They should commend government, they should work with us, they are Nigerians, all Nigerians must work together to make sure that we contain Ebola. Why do we want to create problems where it is not necessary, it is uncalled for.” He said

'Why our top pastors are failing in marriage' - Relationship expert Praise Fowowe explains

Relationship expert, Praise Fowowe, who is a self confessed sex addict turned relationship and sex counselor, in this incisive piece gave reasons why the marriages of some top pastors are packing up. Find his thought provoking piece below
1. A man of God is not God, he is a man: Unfortunately, we treat our men of God as if they are spirits who don't live in human body. What do we expect when we saddle them with our numerous issues. Unfortunately, many are not wise to say no to church members whose lives will continue if they drop dead. Church members have academic, financial, and even marital problems, they go to the pastor as if the man is built to solve every problem and in our quest to prove that we are superstars, we also fail to embrace the use of professionals who are trained in these things because of our hidden fear of respect. What stops a man of God who knows his marriage is in danger to take a back seat and allow a church member whose marriage is a model take a message on a Sunday that marriage is meant to be discussed? You are not built to solve every problem.
2. Anointing does not give immunity to divorce: The same way anointing doesn't give immunity to sexual sins, it doesn't also give immunity to divorce. It takes more than anointing to make a marriage work. I have seen the people we refer to as unbelievers build a fantastic marriage why I have also seen loads of tongue-talking believers make a shipwreck of theirs. The most important ingredient to build a winning marriage isn't prayers, it is knowledge and if you don't have it, you can't pray it in. I tell people that your anointing wouldn't stop you from sleeping with church members if you have a sex problem. If you position yourself around babes consistently in the name of "My daughter in the lord" and you don't draw a critical line, it is only a matter of time. My story is everywhere on how I was a sex addict in church after being born again yet leading praise worship and leading people to Christ until I became real to myself and went to get help. Every counselor needs a counselor and every pastor needs a pastor who may not necessarily be title carrying person because the problem with us is that in this part of the world, we believe that a laity isn't anointed as long as he doesn't pastor a large church. If you are beating your wife, don't pretend you don't have a problem, you need to get help from a psychologist or psychiatrist.
3. There is no relationship without communication and relaxation: So many men of God don't communicate with their spouses. You can't expect an abandoned flower to blossom without your attention. I think many of us saddle our wives with church work that they are not prepared for. I do not believe that because a man is a pastor necessarily means that his wife must be a Pastor Mrs. God's callings and gifting aren't by marriage. I don't understand the calling that will make a man of God remain in Nigeria while he sends his wife to Germany to pastor the branch of the church over there. Excuse me, you are a human being who needs emotional attention. Unfortunately, that is the reality in many ministries. You are a man of God on the pulpit but at home, you are a lover and a father to your children. So you might learn to drop the bible and Christianity on the altar so that you can communicate with your wife and your children in human language. I was invited to a meeting years back and I asked the Pastor's there the last time they had a dance with their spouses? I was shocked when they said it was during their wedding.
4. Isolation isn't spirituality: Jesus never isolated himself. As a matter of fact, he was found in everyday places like our present day shopping malls and movie houses. I see a lot of young pastors who have aged faster than they should be because of Isolation. Something tells us that we need to isolate ourselves to receive a word for a people who are being "pastored" only during the service because many of them are being influenced more by their favorite musician than their pastor. Don't allow church members turn you into who you are not because you don't want to hang out with your babe. They would spread your story when your marriage breaks down. When was the last time you met your pastor in a bus, mall, a restaurant or a cinema? As a matter of fact, when was the last time he was stuck in traffic and you saw him? If your answer is no, then most likely your pastor is a spirit. If a man wants to live in isolation, he should please not get married so that we can save the body of Christ all this embarrassment.
5. Wisdom is in the city square: If a man of God is inadequate on a particular subject, It is not shameful to get help. It is humility to look for help from people that have studied that particular subject. Something to learn from someone we have categorized as sinner. So when I hear someone make statements like there is nothing an unbeliever can teach me, I often ask who taught you how to speak English and understand Mathematics. Age and longevity in ministry is not the same as wisdom.

Graphic pics: Generator fumes kill man, wife & 3 children in Ikorodu

Generator fumes has killed a man, his wife and all his 3 children in Ipoyewa community of Ikorodu, Lagos. The bodies of the family was discovered by neighbours last Friday September 12th in their home. All five suffocated to death after inhaling fumes from a generator which they'd kept in their room. According to neighbours, the man bought the generator just two days before the unfortunate incident and was afraid it will be stolen if left outside so he kept it inside his 2-room apartment.

When the family failed to come out late Friday morning, a neighbour peeped through their window, saw bodies, and alerted others. They broke down the door to discover the horror. And when I say horror, I mean horror. The photos are really graphic so please be warned.

Residents of the community are blaming the family's deaths on lack of power in the area. They claim the last time they had light was 3 years ago, that every house in the area uses a generator. They said they have called on the government many times to help them with light but their efforts have yielded no fruit. See the pics after the cut.. *warning - graphic content*

People need to be educated about the dangers of generator fumes...
